Helping With Hurricane Ida

UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 9

Our thoughts are with our Louisiana and Gulf Coast friends as we see the images and videos of Hurricane Ida’s destruction. SPCA Tampa Bay is ready to lend a helping hand.

This Saturday, September 11, we are sending a team of four to assist in a national response effort to relieve staff of the Louisiana SPCA and to help care for animals in their care. The SPCA Tampa Bay response team is expected to be in the New Orleans area for up to two weeks.

We are also continuing our efforts to assist in the cross-state transport network helping pets get out of shelters close to the devastation. This is helping shelters create more available room to accommodate the wave of displaced pets they anticipate will need shelter.

In addition, the transport network will bring 10 kittens and four dogs to SPCA Tampa Bay this Saturday. The animals will go through the appropriate medical and review before they are ready for adoption.

In the early stages of the response, the Humane Society of South Mississippi delivered 15 dogs to SPCA Tampa Bay on Sunday, August 29. Nine of these dogs are currently available for adoption at our shelter and the rest are going through medical evaluations.

See our available dogs here and check back here for updates.

The nation’s thoughts are with the people and animals impacted by Hurricane Ida.

As a way to assist, we’ve offered to be part of a cross-state transport network helping pets get out of shelters close to the devastation. This helps those shelters prepare by creating more available room to accommodate the wave of displaced storm pets they anticipate will need shelter in the days to come.

15 dogs from the Humane Society of Southern Mississippi arrived at SPCA Tampa Bay this past Sunday. Three of these dogs are currently available for adoption at our shelter and the rest are going through medical evaluations. See our available dogs here and check back for updates.
