Emily Barber, Chief HR Officer

Emily Barber brings more than 11 years of experience in management to her role as Chief HR Officer. At SPCA Tampa Bay, she develops and executes the nonprofit’s strategic staffing plan, which includes compensation, benefits, policies, training and budget.

As part of this work, Barber develops processes and policies for staff and volunteers to maintain the organization’s daily operations. Barber leads SPCA Tampa Bay’s employee development programs, provides orientation for staff and volunteers, and evaluates the organization’s effectiveness through data analysis. She maintains compliance with federal, state and local laws that govern equal opportunities and employee records, among other topics, and advises SPCA Tampa Bay’s leaders on laws and policy changes that can affect the organization and its employees.

Prior to joining SPCA Tampa Bay, Barber worked in management roles in both non-profit and corporate settings. Most recently, she worked on the contracts negotiation team at Tech Data, a Clearwater-based Fortune 500 corporation, providing advice to internal departments regarding key business issues with a focus on risk mitigation strategies. She previously served as communications director for a national non-profit association that worked to increase the use of research-proven strategies to help at-risk youth and families nationwide.

Barber graduated with a degree in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia. She completed post-graduate studies in Contracts Management and Human Resources at Villanova University.

A lifelong equestrian, she relocated to Florida in 2010 and now lives in St. Petersburg. She joined the SPCA Tampa Bay team in 2016.
