Dog Massage

Dog Massage

Dog massage is a two and a half hour workshop led by a licensed and board certified massage therapist who specializes in canine and equine massage.  Shonna Bender has an extensive background in anatomy and physiology as well as an understanding of disease pathology.  She has personally observed the benefits of canine massage for her own aging dogs.  This is a humans only seminar where participants will practice techniques while also learning about the theory of massage therapy. This workshop is a great opportunity for those looking for a way to ease aches and pains in arthritic or active working dogs!

  • Part 1 - Covers basic canine anatomy, benefits of massage, contraindications to massage, massage strokes and pressure, along with precautions.
  • Part 2 - Hands-on massage! You'll learn a simple, yet effective massage that canine owners can safely use with their own pets.
  • Part 3 - Discussion of various disorders, conditions and problems that can benefit from regular massage:
  • Use in geriatric dogs: relief of mental and physical issues related to age
  • Canine athletes: pre and post event, as well as injury prevention and general fitness
  • Thunder phobia and nervous dogs
  • Musculoskeletal disorders such as hip dysplasia, osteoarthritis, TMJ dysfunction and cruciate ligament problems
  • Use of massage for young dogs to promote human socialization
  • Early detection of cancer
  • Hospice: end of life comfort
  • Faster recovery time after surgery
  • Discussion of other complementary and alternative veterinary care such as cold laser therapy, aromatherapy, acupuncture, hydrotherapy and nutritional supplements
Canine massage is not a substitute for comprehensive and routine veterinary care. Canine massage is intended to enhance your dog's overall well-being and complement the care provided your veterinarian. Medical concerns should always be discussed with your veterinarian.
