Community Engagement Specialist

Job Summary:

In collaboration with the Marketing and Philanthropy departments, shape and execute community engagement, business cultivation, and educational outreach in line with the organization’s strategic and program requirements of SPCA Tampa Bay. Lead and support special event initiatives, off-site business/organizational cultivation, group tours, and educational outreach opportunities within the community that build and strengthen the organization’s donor and community relationships.

Responsibilities and Duties

Essential Functions:

  • Act as a primary contact for SPCA Tampa Bay’s events in the community. In collaboration with the Marketing and Philanthropy teams, identify and confirm locations appropriate for events. Act as the events lead, by attending and recruiting staff and/or volunteers to support these events.
  • Responsible for logistical support from start to finish for community facing events. This includes event promotion, coordinating volunteer and/or staff support, data entry, day-of-event logistics, and other tasks assigned.
  • Responsible for educational outreach initiatives, such as student tours on-site, school presentations off-site, and any additional mission centric educational opportunities both on-site and off-site.
  • Leads SPCA Tampa Bay’s Whiskers at Work program by working with businesses and organizations in the community to promote positive team-building and mental health initiatives that come from the human animal connection (Humanimality). This includes transporting animals to and from off-site programs, coordinating with businesses/organizations prior to the event, working with Animal Welfare to secure animals, and all day-of-event logistics.
  • Coordinates third-party fundraising events, initiatives, and outreach opportunities as assigned.
  • Designs and creates informative, engaging online content to promote community programs and educational outreach opportunities, targeted toward a variety of audiences in the form of blogs, flyers, posters, editorials, scripts, social media posts, print and digital ad copy.
  • Work with the Marketing Department to list community facing events on our website, community and media event calendars and other digital media.
  • Coordinate with Philanthropy staff to develop digital marketing plans and creative elements to meet the timeline and goals of on-site tours, education, and off-site Whiskers at Work events.
  • Develop new and innovative mission centric educational materials for students of all grade levels, as well as tour materials for both students and adults.
  • Works with the Mission Programs Manager to enhance our mission centric outreach opportunities as needed.
  • Maintains the organization’s brand, image, and identity.
  • Provide friendly, responsive, and personalized customer service.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Participate in required meetings and trainings.
  • Professionally always represent SPCA Tampa Bay.

 

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree preferred. Bachelor’s degree is a plus.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Three to five years of experience coordinating community events and preparing marketing and/or special event materials, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
  • One to three years of experience leading and executing educational outreach initiatives and/or group tours to some capacity.
  • Familiarity with WordPress, Canva, various Adobe programs, and major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Strong writer, storyteller, creator, and communicator.
  • Comfortable with public-facing community outreach and interactions with existing and/or potential donors/constituents.
  • Superior time management skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven ability to provide excellent service and care for customers and animals.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally in both oral and written form.
  • Experienced in handling sensitive/confidential information with discretion.
  • Previous experience in responding quickly to change.
  • Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy.
  • Professional phone skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Light physical effort — regularly lifting or moving less than 25 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Walking and prolonged sitting and standing.
  • Work in an on-site office setting and off-site in various settings.
  • Ability to work flexible and extended hours, including some night and weekends.
  • Community outreach in a variety of environments, including indoor and outdoor.
  • Frequently working with and transporting animals to and from events as needed.
