Rebecca Schiess, DVM (General Practice)
Dr. Schiess graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, on the island of St. Kitts and Nevis, in January 2019. Her clinical year was spent at Louisiana State University. She is originally from Virginia, moved to Tampa at a very young age, and received a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of South Florida in 2015. Before joining SPCA Tampa Bay she grew fond of spay and neuter clinics, shelter medicine and what non-profit organizations are able to provide to their community. She has special interests in soft tissue surgery and sterilization procedures, spay and neuter, helping to minimize pet overpopulation. She has trained with the ASPCA Humane Alliance in Asheville, NC; the Companion Animal Alliance Shelter in Baton Rouge, LA; and VIDA’s International Veterinary Training Center in Costa Rica and Nicaragua to provide low cost services to underserved areas of each community. Dr. Schiess is a Fear Free Certified Professional with a mission to help prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in pets at the veterinary hospital. In her free time, she enjoys time with friends and family doing just about anything outdoors or on the water. Her favorite pastime is stand up paddle boarding and kayaking with her boyfriend Kyle and two dogs, Mason (St. Kitts native) and River (Louisiana native). She also has a cat names Sirius.
Dr. Schiess remains active in the veterinary industry as a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Pinellas County Veterinary Medical Association and as an Elite Fear Free Certified Professional.
